Sturtevant Richmont introduces the newest innovation in wireless error proofing: The PST 1200 Series Pneumatic Sensor Transceiver. What's new with this model?
Have a pneumatic line in your assembly? Want the usage managed with accessible data? The PST 1200 Series is the latest intelligent tool from the labs at Sturtevant Richmont. The PST 1200 Series is tool agnostic. It works with all clutch-based pulse tools. It does NOT work with impact tools. Nor does it work with "push start" pneumatic tools.
We don't care about the brand of the clutched air tool. We care about getting the greatest possible accuracy from that tool and supporting your error proofing.
We build error-proofing into each and every one of our tools. We make error-proofing processes more robust. Our PST 1200 recognizes types of errors. Here is an example:
Identifying the premature release error fits our Error Proofing By Behavior Modification approach. As the Global 400 rejects the fastening as non-compliant the operator can look at the time/pressure signature and see that the issue is based on a premature clutch release.
To create consistent and compliant fastenings the operator must change behavior and release the clutch later in the process.
If the operator is having issues with the other double hit errors or cross-threaded errors, behavior can also be changed to reduce the frequency of these errors.
Our Error Proofing By Guidance design approach to error-proofing also applies to the PST 1200. Each fastener is given visual and auditory feedback as to its status. In addition, the Global 400 provides operators with a batch total and batch count so the operator knows at any moment exactly where they are in the process for that batch. Error Proofing By Guidance helps the operator move through the batch faster and with fewer errors.
The PST 1200 also has our Error Proofing By Design capabilities built-in. Error Proofing By Design is our ability to reduce the impact of human influence on the torque application event. In the Global 400 and PST 1200 interface, you have access to both time and air pressure factors.
In terms of time, our Error Proofing By Design is found in "TBump". Sometimes an operator can bump the clutch and the tool momentarily runs. Since neither the time nor air pressure standards were reached, a reject is created. But now work was ever attempted.
Setting the "TBump" at .25 of a second or .4 of a second tells the PST 1200 and Global 400 to simply ignore that event.
The PST 1200 functionality is simple: create a compliant fastener standard algorithm with time and air pressure specifications and then save it to the Global 400 with which it is paired. Accuracy is ensured because the PST 1200 measures air pressure in the motor compartment. Measuring air pressure anywhere else doesn't make sense. Aren't there already enough variables in air pressure?
Log in with the Global Manager Software, open the PST 1200 profile screen and drag the air pressure and time facts unit you have the pressure and time profile that you want.
Run the fastener and test the resulting torque value on that fastener. Making any changes to the profile is still drag and drop.
Once the standard is in place the PST 1200 and the Global 400 process monitor work together to evaluate each subsequent fastening. The PST 1200 uses a radio transceiver to receive instructions and report results. The Global process monitor provides visual and auditory feedback on the results of each fastener.
The recommended installation is to put the hardwired PST 1200 within 12” to 24” of the pneumatic tool with which the PST 1200 is paired. We supply a small blue hose with the PST 1200 that connects to the motor compartment of the pneumatic tool, and remaining within the 24” of the pneumatic tool ensures the small blue hose will fit.
This distance also allows fast signal time and allows the tool user to see the lights on the PST 1200. It is allowed to go up to ~5ft from the tool without requiring a dump valve set up to clear the airline. This should only be the choice if vehicle dent and scratch avoidance must be employed.
The AC voltage is immediately converted to DC at the power adapter plug. This allows the power cord to be tied to the air hose without the risk of shock to the operator. Additionally, no electrical rules are violated by doing this. The hardwired PST 1200 comes with 15 ft of power cable. Up to two more 15ft extensions can be used if needed. If the power cord requirement is longer than 45 ft, you must check for a voltage drop.
It should be noted that the hardwired PST 1200 uses a more powerful radio (equal to the g400) and updated code. The battery version of the PST 1200 does not carry the new radio. The battery version should not be chosen for any new installations and is available for legacy purposes only.
See the Newton Metre YouTube Channel for videos on unboxing and connecting the PST 1200.
The PST 1200 has two power options: battery or hardwire power. In high activity applications
(two or more fastenings a minute) we recommend using NiMH AA rechargeable batteries. In high activity applications, these batteries have proven to last longer and provide a greater number of cycles per battery.
If you tighten one fastener per minute or less than ten fasteners in 10 minutes, the alkaline battery provides more cycles per battery.
Please Note: The PST 1200 works with the Global 400 only. The PST is not backward compatible.
If you have a Global 100 or Global 8 installation, the PST 2000 is your best option.
