Series Exacta 2 Digital Torque Wrench for Auditing

Please Note: Our Exacta Series Digital Torque Wrenches no longer ship with the SD (Square Drive) interchangeable head.  You can use any of your existing Sturtevant Richmont interchangeable heads for torque wrenches, or you can purchase new ones. There are more than 200 interchangeable heads for torque wrenches available for use with any Sturtevant Richmont torque wrench that is equipped with our Dovetail.

Be sure to place your order for new heads with your Exacta 2 order. When ordering heads, please consider the common centerline for the heads. Our design maintains two common centerlines. The short common centerline is 1 7/16" while the longer common centerline is 3 7//8".

Wrenches with 400 ft-lb and 600 ft-lb capacity are calibrated with the 3 7/8" adapter while all other tools are calibrated with the 1 7/16" common centerline adapter. If you are using a 400 ft-lb or 600 ft-lb model but only use heads with the shorter common centerline, be sure to request having your tool calibrated with the 1 7/16 common centerline adapter. That way your torque application will remain highly accurate and not be impacted by a change in length as the result of a different common centerline.

For those applications where rapid and frequent head size changes are required, we have the Quick Change heads. Rather than using a small, flat head screwdriver or our CART tool to depress the pin and remove the head, at customer request, we designed these wrenches to make a head change only using pressure from your thumb. We recommend using heads of 1" or less for the Quick Change application. We also recommend 150 ft-lbs and under for torque capacity to ensure safety using the Quick Change design.

Our regular dovetail uses the pin and spring embedded in the dovetail. Our Quick Change dovetail uses a ball bearing and spring which facilitates the use of thumb power. Everything had a trade-off. While the QC style dovetail makes interchangeable head changes very fast, size and torque limitations come into play.

We recommend that you use heads of 1 1/4 inches or smaller and 150 ft-lbs ss the highest torque level where the QC configuration be used. Your safety is always our concern.

*An Important Note About Our NiMH Battery Selection

The 1100 Series Exacta 2 circuit board is designed on the highly consistent 1.2-volt power curve provided by rechargeable NiMH batteries. Other batteries like Alkaline or Lithium batteries provide 1.5 volts in the power curve. The additional voltage will damage the circuit board.

Please Remember These NiMH Battery Facts:

  • NiMH rechargeable batteries come in a range of mAh (milli-amp hour) ratings.
  • The rating difference is the number of operational hours the battery will supply.
  • The higher the mAh rating, the longer the batteries last between charges.
  • High mAh rated batteries take longer to charge than low mAh rated batteries.
  • Quick chargers shorten useful battery life.
  • The trickle charger is the best way to recharge the batteries and preserve battery life.

1400 mAh NiMH batteries, 4-pack

NiMH batteries with ratings between 1400 mAh and 2500 mAh can be used. The difference is the number of cycles between battery changes and the length of time to recharge. The power curve is identical. Quick Chargers tend to provide greater wear on batteries and diminish their useful life.

*Using batteries other than the prescribed AA NiMH rechargeable batteries can cause inaccurate readings, damage the wrench, and immediately VOIDS the Warranty. For more information about batteries see our What You Need to Know About Batteries page.

Applications & Characteristics

The Exacta 2 line sets a new standard for digital torque wrench performance in assembly, maintenance, and auditing. Better still, this new design as robust as it is accurate and reliable. The three modes of operation onboard permit use in almost every circumstance and most models offer the SR dovetail so you can use any of 200 SR Interchangeable Heads.

Since it has a serial port and works with our Exawin software, specification and data handling are quick and easy.

  • Bi-directional accuracy of +/- 1% of Indicated Value from 20% to 100% of capacity in Track and Peak modes meets or exceeds requirements of ASME B107.300-2010 and ISO 6789. The Residual mode assists the user in determining retained torque on a joint. The actual accuracy percentage is contingent upon the joint condition and user technique.  <
  • Includes a free Certificate of Calibration from our ISO 17025 Accredited Lab.
  • Ships in a custom, blow-molded plastic case to protect the wrench. The case also serves as an excellent storage space for the wrench.
  • The large, bright display can be read at arm's length, even in shadow.
  • Three modes of operation - Track, Peak, and Residual - cover almost every application.
  • Programmable Limits With Visual Notification. Want a visual guide and an audible prompt when you’ve reached the torque specification? Want a visual guide on your progress as you use the tool? Exacta® 2 has both!

Error Proofing By Guidance: Exacta® 2 has a Yellow/Green/Red illumination system to guide you as you use the wrench. The display and a raised lens on the back of the wrench both illuminate when each significant torque value is reached. An LED provides a Yellow/Orange light as you approach the minimum torque specification. The light turns green when you reach the minimum torque and remains green until you either stop pulling on the wrench or the maximum torque specification is attained. If you over-torque, it turns bright red to let you know. Just pull to Green!

  • Error Proofing By Guidance: Supplementing the visual information is audible prompts from a beeper. You’ll always know when the torque is right!
  • Exacta® 2 comes with a serial cable for communication with a PC, and can download readings as they are taken, or in a batch mode! The readings can be saved as a text file and imported by almost any statistical or spreadsheet software. This is an invaluable aid when performing process design and process analysis.
  • Simple front panel programming. Four key switches on the front of the Exacta® 2 electronics module permit the programming and operation of all key functions.
  • 999 memory locations can be accessed, reviewed, uploaded, and printed - all from the front keypad.
  • Free Exawin software. We have developed software for programming Exacta® 2 from a PC. The Exawin software permits downloading maximum and minimum torque limits, units of measure, and other key operating functions directly from a PC. It does so with ease and simplicity. The link to the software is below, so it is immediately available when you are ready. Take advantage of this software and the capabilities it affords.
  • Four of six models have the SR dovetail and can be used with SR Interchangeable Heads.
  • The Exacta® 2 uses four (4) AA NiMH batteries. The mAh rating on the batteries impacts two factors. The larger the mAh rating, the longer it takes to charge the battery. The mAh rating also impacts the duration of the charge. The higher the mAh rating, the longer the batteries will continue to provide a stable power curve.
  • NiMH batteries provide ample operating time between charges. Backup batteries (NAFTA countries only) are available with 2500 mAh capacity.
