Batteries for all Exacta® 2-type Digital Torque Wrenches Applicable to: all Exacta® 2, all 1100-Series Exacta® 2, and all 3000-Series Exacta® 2 Digital Torque Wrenches. Also used in Torq-Tronics Digital Torque Testers as of March 2011. The Design Challenge Designing battery-powered electronic products has as one of its core requirements the determination of the characteristics of the battery to be used. This includes such things as voltage, discharge rates under varying conditions, the ability to be recharged and other considerations. There are two basic approaches to solving this problem. The manufacturer can design a unique battery package that is not interchangeable with any other, thereby assuring the correct battery will be used every time since no other can be physically connected to the product. This approach works well when hundreds of thousands or even millions of the product will be sold; the costs related to a unique battery package are spread among a large number of units and add very little to the cost of each individual product. When the production numbers are smaller, this approach does not work as well – the product becomes quite expensive since a larger portion of the custom package must be put in the cost of each unit. An alternative to this is to design the product so commonly available batteries of known and specific physical and electric properties can be used. This approach allows the purchase price of the product to be held down, but imposes on the purchaser the necessity of assuring that the correct battery type having the required characteristics is used every time the batteries are installed in the unit. The Selected Solution This second approach we have taken with these tools. In addition to keeping the purchase price of these product lines low, the actual batteries selected help control ownership costs. The selected batteries:
In the NAFTA countries, S/R has part numbers for battery charger kits and spare batteries that may be shipped and used throughout the NAFTA countries. For countries outside NAFTA, select rechargeable Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries from among those available at the links below. Note that in the web site section for Europe, the terminology for the batteries changes; the needed batteries are referred to as “ACCU” on the site and those are the ones to select from among.
